Associate Scientist, Plant Evaluation

What You’ll Do?

The Plant Evaluation Associate Scientist will serve Oerth Bio as an innovative, inquisitive, and motivated team player with strong problem-solving and analytical skills. This research associate scientist will assist with routine plant growth, treatment, and evaluation work; plant sampling and processing for various assays; and recording detailed observations in a plant information management database. It is envisioned that this person will eventually assume full accountability for these activities.

Who You Are:

· You have a BS degree and 1-3 years of experience.

· You have experience evaluating plants in chemical screens.

· You have experience planting and maintaining plants in controlled growth environments.

· You have a strong, inquisitive mind and are a critical thinker.

· You have availability for periodic weekend and holiday work as needed.

· You have prior experience in the plant biotech industry.

· You are proficient using Microsoft Office tools.

· You collaborate easily with other groups and possess flexibility to work in a rapidly changing environment.

· You are capable of balancing competing priorities while following protocols and adhering to a set experimental schedule.

· You speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.

· You communicate ideas effectively in group meetings.

· You are extremely organized, careful, observant and proactive.

· You effectively manage multiple competing priorities and deliverables within a fast-paced entrepreneurial work setting.

Oerth Bio’s headquarters is located in vibrant downtown Durham, NC close to many shops, restaurants and public transportation. The holder of this position is not expected to travel significantly.

This position will be in Durham, NC and will report to the Greenhouse Manager in the Plant Evalution team. Oerthlings are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated and required to be vaccinated if they plan to work from the lab and/or office. Vaccinated employees should provide a copy of their vaccination card to Leanne Lemyre ( so that this documentation is on file. If you have not been vaccinated, we ask that you work with your manager to arrange to work remotely until such time when you are vaccinated.
