Biology Internship

What You’ll Do?

This position as an Intern at Oerth Bio is laboratory-based. You will be working with a team of Scientists within the Biology department. You will gain first-hand experience in the development of molecular degraders (PROTACs® - PROteolysis TArgeting Chimera) for applications in agriculture. You will receive training in biochemistry and/or plant-based assays which you will then perform and analyze under minimal supervision. You will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and directly contribute to the advancement of our development pipeline.

Oerth bio will support up to 3 summer internships, within the Biology Department. Dependent on individual background, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in one of three areas:

  1. Biochemistry/Biophysics: biochemical binding assay characterizing protein drug interactions.
  2. Degrader Mechanisms: E.coli protein expression and purification to support the development of protein ubiquination assays
  3. Plant Evaluation: growing plants, applying treatments, ,preparing, and analyzing samples to advance our understanding of plant-chemical interactions.

Who You Are:

  • You are a team player that enjoys working closely with others.

  • You are detail-oriented and possess good organizational skills.
  • You can work independently and effectively communicate problems
  • You are majoring \in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Agriculture, Horticulture, Plant Biology, or a related field.
  • You have hands on experience or theoretical knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
    • Performing and interpreting binding affinity assays.
    • Protein purification and standard protein characterization methods, such as SDS‐PAGE.
    • Growing plants suitable for replicated experiments and collecting samples for chemical analysis
    • Familiarity with plant physiology is desirable.
  • You are proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in data analysis using GraphPad or similar software would be advantageous.

Oerth Bio’s headquarters is located in vibrant downtown Durham, NC close to many shops, restaurants and public transportation. The holder of this position is not expected to travel significantly.

This position will be located Durham, NC. Oerthlings are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated and required to be vaccinated if they plan to work from the lab and/or office.
